Scope Basel 2007 was a double first night: first Scope in Basel and first international event for brot.undspiele. It is highly satisfying to notice, that both were a success.
We presented three artists: Kinga Dunikowski, Codemanipulator © und Steve Schepens. The first and the last were present at the Fair.
Steve Schepens’ installation caught an eye of the audience and his performance caused quite a stir. In the Würstchenbude (sausage-stand) one could get a conceptual variation of sausage and French fries or enjoy Steve’s installation of drawings and silk-prints. He sounded the stand with two live performances, traditionally accompanied by Belgian Race-Grind-Metal-Band KRUAGRE. By the end of a second performance, one French exhibitor burst out in fury and two paintings fell down from the wall. As for the rest, the Art Fair proceeded quite discreetly.
Works of Kinga Dunikowski were neither that expansive nor that loud. Nevertheless, they were a great attraction. No visitor could pass by without taking a picture; Swiss TV filmed the object and interviewed the artist. There is no wonder that three of Kinga’s bigger works found their buyers.
Good new contacts and good selling made all the work worth doing it. The best reword was Alexis and Helen’s direct invitation for Scope Miami.
