The Ex-New-York-Artist David Krepfle lives now for two years in Berlin. In his series of works titeled »Americas Fears« he creates a distant but affactionate view on his own nation. By means of irony and sometimes black humor Krepfles mask like sculptures deal with the disintegrating self-perception of the US.
His works uncover the collective memory in comic like icons. The ironical turning point reveals than the self perception as an illusion, fear as cheap propaganda. Apparently naive, the masks do amuse but also astoun and advise at the same time. David Krepfles works are critical self reflections as well as appraisal of the crisis of the American Dream. The universality of the icon disputes also the non american viewer: It could be a global problem.
Since 2005 brot.undspiele galerie berlin presents artists who‘s works bring unconventional impulses to art. Hereby we concentrate on contemporary art of the last 30 years. Mostly we are interested in the tension between the works of different generations of artists.
