What is a moment, what is it made of? Probably it‘s more than the time of it‘s existence – as it can appear to us everlasting or it‘s over before we are aware of it. It can change our life – or it‘s forgotten the minute we perceive it. But when a moment is more than an instant, how can it be captured by a camera?
Four artists of different generations trace this question. They approach the moment with different techniques, concepts and forms of expression.
Wincenty Dunikowski Duniko (*1947) invented in 1976 for a series of works the notion »Moment Art«. In his presented work »Common Printing with Breath« he raises the fugaciousness of breath to artistic expression.
Also the photos by Loeïza Jacq (*1974) show in their dynamic motives the transience of a moment, though in her case it is likewise metaphorical the condition between the beginning and the end of a movement.
In contrast to this Martin Brand (*1975) shows in his video the portrait of a young sailor in a classic, photographic manner – quasi static. Just the blink of his eye or movements in the background give an idea about the nature of the used media.
Roland Wirtz (*1959) holds in his work as well the moment as the uniqueness of an event. By means of a self constructed camera he exposed the whole playing time of a famous german soccer game1 directly on to the photographic paper. The result so is like the captured moment unique.
