After having recently changed his centre of life from Ghent (Belgium) to Berlin it was just a matter of time that one of Steve Schepens legendary Horror-Performances would manifest the artists arrival.
On his way from Belgium heading towards the east already in 2006 he has literally rocked the house at the MARTa in Herford with his record-breaking one-hour HORROR-15-Performance.

Steve Schepens in his HORROR-series always deals with the space and place of the performance in an specific and critical way. He constructs specially for the location installations made out of used cardboard boxes (which he collects in the near environment) that he sculpts into barricades, borders or blocks.
In his perfomances not only the installation plays a central role but also the belgian Racegrind-Metal-Band KRUAGRE that accompaines him.
For every HORROR-chapter artist and band do write new texts that they arrange to new compositions, which later on are played during the performance of Steve Schepens – live, as a matter of course.

In his HORROR-project Steve Schepens is concerned with the phenomenon of an image. Hereby the process of the development of an image and the reason for its existance are in the centre of interest. But also the resulting connection towards the developed image is relevant. In his performance-series HORROR he analyses this connection between work and its origin. He thereby reveals the borders of the image, that become the literal image and reflects the relationship between artist/observer/subject and the artwork/object.

In HORROR 16 – Meringue Impossible „6000 Artists in Berlin – We take part of the cake“ the gallery is penetrated by an enormous piece of cake. Like a wedge Steve Schepens piece of the „huge cake” moves through the window into the room. Alike the trojan horse the outer form serves the seduction while the inside is dominated by HORROR. The viewer standing outside thus only gets to know about the performance acustically.
