It is a common denominator for a series of exhibitions. The criterion for the choice of artists is not as strict as the title would suggest. The essential point is the presentation of artists who use photography or related media, who have very individual treatment of time and space and for whom the assumptions of concept art are a source of inspiration.
Christian Boltanski in his work “The Chronicle of Accidents”, 1973, uses newspaper clippings with photos of murderers and their victims, without identifying who is who. With each showing, the installation is adapted to the interior of the gallery.
Renate and Lars Brandt are showing their joint work „Hotel Vernet – Storyboard I”, 1998. Renate Brandt`s photos present ordinary situations cleverly observed, recreated or simply caught by the camera. Seemingly unspectacular, they are in fact poetic and bursting with implied meaning. Lars Brandt’s texts, with their perfidious metaphorics, charge the whole work with incredible formal and ideological intensity.
Kinga Dunikowski (A Breeze of Fortune, 2002) is fascinated by moving between reality and fiction. Situations built with ready elements borrowed from reality gain suggestiveness owing to the artistic illusion.
Natalia LL, “Dreaming”, 1978, is interested in the „state of simultaneous physical presence and absence in night dreams”.
Akira Komoto in his series of works “Seeing”, 1976-1981, carries our the play between the reality and its representation, photodocumenting the staged situation.
Wincenty Dunikowski-Duniko is showing his works from the series Moment Art, 1976. These captured moments, these arrested fragments of time - the capturing of that which is in fact impossible to capture, which is to say, the deceptive game with traditional observation, provoking one to have it out with time, experienced as something obvious.
Jerzy Olek in his project “The Dimensionlessness of Illusion”, started in 1991, uses new media and optical illusions to create unreal multiple spaces.
